It’s International Women’s Day today!
What does that mean to you?
As I was thinking about what it means to me, I remembered a random discovery while driving through New Zealand…
Amidst a majestic mountain range there was a wall of weathered bras. Thousands of bras carving a path through the vast landscape.
Curious, I pulled over to check it out and discovered I wasn’t the only one magnetically drawn to this feminine fanfare. Thousands of women left proof of their presence by leaving their bra, adding one more layer to the growing texture of this panorama.
Although a bra isn’t the only thing that defines a woman, it is definitely a feminine statement. I don’t entirely know what the bra wall statement is, but one thing is for sure… it is about being a woman!
Being a woman in the world today holds the great opportunity to define our femininity for ourselves.
This wasn’t always the case. Women in the past had to mind their place and fulfill a role to ensure their survival. They were treated as the lesser within the patriarchal structure and objectified for their value based on a man’s perspective. The residue of these ways still haunts our society today and often keeps women from fully claiming their power.
A woman’s power is hers to discover.
We learn about our feminine power by claiming what is natural and innate to ourselves as women. As we value our innate femininity, we gain access to our power.
Today, we are still weeding through the residue of the past, but our weeding process is tilling the soil to make space for planting new seeds.
