Homage to First Blood – made during the Yoni Art Course after I made a ceremony for myself to honor the girl I was when I first started to bleed. My mother provided me with sanitary napkins and belt and that was it when I began to menstruate. No celebration, no ‘rite of passage’, no ceremony or ritual and I always felt – up until now – that my menses was at best a nasty inconvenience to deal with. This piece of art is to recognize & celebrate that moment when I became capable of co-creating life within my own body and is sitting on my altar now reminding me of the miracle of my own creative power and the creative juiciness of life itself – if you look closely you might see a cheerleader for the girl I once was raising her pompoms high and shouting for joy.
